Since near the dawn of civilization, beer has been brewed by man. Archeologiest have found Egyptian hieroglyphics on the pyramid walls with ancient beer recipes. Beer has traditionally been brewed at home for home consumption. Along with other necesities of life such as baking bread, making clothes, each household made theit own beer. The legality of homebrewing varies from State to State, however it is legal in almost all states. If you are 21 years or older, you can brew upto 100 gallons of beer per year in your home. If there is more than 1 adult (over 21) in your household, you may, as a household, brew upto 200 gallons per year. You may not sell your beer with out the proper licsenses. See you State office for the specifics within your own State.

| what exactly is beer? |
Beer is a fermented beverage made from four primary ingredients: malted barley, hops, yeast, and water. A variety of other grains and adjuncts such as wheat, rice, rye, and corn can be added for different styls and alcohol contents. Hops adds bitterness and aromatics to the beer. | when can i start drinking my homebrew? |
Fermentation normally takes from 1 to 3 weeks. Depending on the style you are making. Once bottled, your beer will need to age a bit. The aging (conditioning) in the bottle can take from a couple of weeks to several months. This, again, is determined by the style you choose to brew. Some very special beers, are aged years!
